About Me
My name is Michael Romero. I am currently an Architectural & Urban Design Advisor at the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community in London. Prior to that, I owned a private architecture and urban design practice called Romero Architects, Inc in Chicago, Illinois. I started that with Aaron Cook under the name Romero Cook Design Studio in 2006. Before that, I worked for Merrill Pastor Colgan Architects in Vero Beach, Florida.
I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s of Architecture in 2002. I also earned a Master’s in Sustainable Architecture & Urbanism from the University of Wales, via the Prince’s Foundation, in the spring of 2011. My thesis was on federal involvement in the promotion of suburban development in the 20th century. It was at once both a depressing and an inspiring topic to research.
I am passionate about urbanism, architecture, economic development, walking, cycling, public transit, cities and food. I have a beautiful wife and two beautiful daughters with one more on the way. My wife and I do not own a car, and we ride our bicycles to work. We would not have it any other way.
Also, I should put a disclaimer that ALL of the words on this blog are my own.
I work for the national nonprofit Reconnecting America. Reconnecting America provides both the public and private sectors with an impartial, fact-based perspective on development-oriented transit and transit-oriented development, and seeks to reinvent the planning and delivery system for building regions and communities around transit and walking rather than solely around the automobile.
Our website is http://www.reconnectingamerica.org. We follow news and events relating to transit-oriented development with our Tracks email newsletter and our Half-Mile Circles blog.
We are putting together a list of people who would like to receive news about our efforts. If you would like to be added to our mailing list, send an email to me at the address below.
